CHAPTER FOUR
Trigger Warning: Video may contain sensitive topics
GUIDED MENTAL HEALTH COMMENTARY
Sometimes, what has been painted on must be taken off: such as our masks, our makeup or our performativity.

We see Eva here giving herself free reign to express her frustration in a private setting: there’s no one here to critique her, no one to perform to, no one to beautify herself for.

Alas, in this short poetic video, we see the signs and symptoms of a cycle of mood disturbances.

We see her swinging between euphoria and her depressed state of mind -- the trigger being whatever incident that incited her vile delusions of happiness (perhaps the nameless individual towards whom her heart is breaking over).

She is aware of, and upset at, this state: specifically the notion that she cannot touch her essential self -- which perhaps refers to a normal, healthy, clear-headed state of emotional stability.
Mood disturbances are usually normal -- we all succumb to them in one form or another. A breakup, a death, an unsuccessful pitch -- all these can make us feel unpleasant for a period of time. And thus, it is important to notice the severity of mood disturbances -- especially when it begins to interfere with everyday life. A mental health professional would be helpful in determining if further interventions are necessary.

For Eva’s case, it is slightly more delicate. Her mood disturbances are enmeshed with her current mental health issues, including perhaps a more deep-rooted personality disorder? (Again and again: this is gleaned only from that which we can pick out in these videos.)

It would take a while to untangle and process the complexity in her recovery process -- which would point to why her recovery seems so protracted.

We do get a glimpse of Eva’s recovery, though, having journeyed with her thus far.

Her suicidal ideations seem to have abated slightly, and she has become more open in expressing how she feels.
This is, no matter how slight, a win.
1 This is a video of Eva’s memory.

As we walk with you through Eva’s room, you will find “home” videos of Eva’s memories. Here, we have an actress playing Eva, reading out the words of excerpts of 4.48 Psychosis (a favourite text of ours).
